The oil and gas industry has widely accepted the use of 3D modelling software for the design of offshore and onshore upstream and downstream facilities; however the full benefits of integrated software packages and design review tools has not been realised. Manual collaboration on documentation, especially between EPC and owner, rather than system-driven exchange of data, remains more widespread than we would like to admit. For McDermott the Holy Grail is to be able to beneficially use digital collaboration tools, such as AVEVA Engage, in the design or EPC stage to create a Digital Twin that unifies the virtual and real worlds. The presentation will detail one means of building, maintaining and beneficially using a cradle to grave Digital Twin.
